HONORS ASSIGNMENT:
Interview a Local Business Owner: Before February break, interview in person an owner or manager of any local business asking these questions:
What is the most effective thing you do to maximize your profit?
Who is your closest competitor?
What skill do prospective employees have to possess to compete for a job in your business?
What does your company do better than your competition?
What's the biggest challenge your company faces?
How does global trade affect your business both positively and negatively?
The assignment is in the Classroom

Unit: Economics and Globalization and Competition.
Our Mantra for this unit is that, you are ALWAYS competing.  
Students will understand the effects of globalization on our community, our state, our country as well as their own lives.

Review and Closure -- Capitalism: Roger and Me
Question: What are the downsides to a competitive capitalist system.
Target: After viewing this film, you will be able explain some of the problems with capitalism. 
As a way to debrief the movie, your table will create a quick presentation that uses evidence from the film to argue whether corporations owe anything to the people that work for them and the cites they are located.  Use the claim, evidence warrant format.

Rumford-Cape Essay Analysis
Target: you will learn how to identify the parts of an essay and color code them to help you eventually identity the strengths and weaknesses of your writing.
Before doing this on your own essay, go to the classroom and practice on the one I have assigned.
Legend:
     Thesis Bold, Italicized and Underlined
     Claims in Red  -- This includes the sentences before your claim that set it up
     Evidence in Dark Green  -- This includes ONLY specific evidence
     Warrants/Explanations in Blue  -- All language that is used to explain how the evidence supports the claim.
     Transitional/Navigational Language in Purple -- This is for words that help the the reader understand what they are about to read.

Next, do it on your own essay, when assigned.

Independent Reading
Target: After completing this unit, you will be able to determine how an author develops a theme in  a literary text.
Use the template in Classroom to write about the meaning in your book.
