Circle: What's more important to you: fitting in or excelling in school?

Mini Writing Lesson
1) How to write a unifying, all-encompassing thesis and why it is so important.
2) Claims categorize your arguments -- they don't mention evidence.

Introduction to Culture
You and another friend of the opposite gender have been invited by a mutual friend to attend the memorial service for your mutual friend's Uncle Bob.  It' not in a church but instead will be held at your mutual friend's house.  Your job it to explain exactly how will both dress to fit in at the service. Use visuals on your phone to help explain the choices you have made.  The group that best dresses to fit in wins.

Unit: Rumford or Cape?
Learning TargetI can use data and information to explain how my choices determine who I will become.
The Scenario: You have the opportunity to raise your child in either Cape Elizabeth or Rumford.  Your family will earn $140,000.  One parent is a chemical engineer and the other a nurse.  This amount of yearly income would allow you to buy a house in either town up to but not over 350,000.  That will mean very different things in each community -- you will very comfortable in Rumford, and house poor and struggling in Cape.  Your child will have very different experiences in each.

Unit: Rumford or Cape? The Rivals
Research: We will be watching the documentary "The Rivals" to understand the culture of the two communities.
1) Watch
2) Make notes an things that you see that give evidence on why either place is good or bad to move to.
