Vocabulary Practice
This year, we will be learning the 100 words that every high school graduate should know.
1) Click here to access the list.
2) We will select three words each week to study and learn.
3) You will be assessed every Friday.
5/6 Words: oxymoron, articulate, formative
7/8 Words: TBD

Reading Practice
We will read for 20 minutes each class to get better at reading.

Unit: Understanding how Theme's a developed in Literature/Film
Learning Target: I can explain how an author uses symbol, setting and (especially) characterization to develop a theme.
Here is an example of an essay that would receive a 100.
Today we will continue to watch "Cast Away" and preparing for writing an essay explaining how the theme of the film was developed by using characterization. 
1) What's important in your note right now?
2) Review of the ending or "part 2" -- tooth removal.
3) Watch the remainder.
4) What did you notice, think, pair, share.
5) On newsprint, create a chart that explains the movie and the job of its parts.

Unit: Fall of Rome
Learning Target: I can make explain the connections between historical events and the present.
1) Looking back at the 8 reasons the Roman empire fell, what is your level of concern that the same thing that is happening in the US?
2) As a class, identify the three most pressing concerns for the United States based on the list of 8.
3) Pass out Fall of Rome DBQ.
4) Review the DBQ reasons that the US is failing, then place the three biggest on the list (p.35).
5) Look at the DBQ documents in isolation.  Determine the source, bias, reliability and meaning of each document.
