New seating chart

New seating chart activity: Introduce yourself to the group and share the following opinions about the new year.  1. How do you think your sophomore year both academically and socially is going so far?  2. What is a good habit that you have adopted recently(within the last year) that has improved your life? 3. What is ONE thing that you would like to improve about yourself(it doesn't have to be a big thing) that will make your life better.  4. Explain to the group how you think the change you are going to make will improve your life.  5.  Do some research online about the most effective ways to make and stick to that meaningful change.  6. This will be submitted for an exit ticket on google classroom.

"LEAVE THE WORLD BEHIND" Writing exercise

Activity: Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs and no adults.
1. Using Maslow's we are going to try and understand why people would act they way they do in the scenario above.
2. Open your story from google classroom and quickly share out what you think might happen.
3. In your own story in google, write down below your story, what you think about the other kids in this school. what might be your biggest concern?
4. At your table discuss what might occur as weeks pass by and food is growing scarce.  In your own story write down what you would do personally to make sure you had access to a limited food source.  
5. At table with group discuss what you think should happen to people who are dangerous and break rules?  Who should enforce rules and why?
6. At you table discuss who you think would do the best job at making sure really bad things don't happen at the school?  Would you be willing to follow this person if they could maintain order?
7. What do you think society would look like(in your case, the kids trapped in this school) after a year?  Do you think a lot would get accomplished or do you think nothing would improve?

Circle: Is civilization fragile?  Do you think people are inherently evil or good based on your discussion as a table?

Learning Target: I can analyze the movement of stocks and find a news story to explain why a company's stock increased or decreased in value.
1) Visit Google Finance
2) Learn how to create simple stock comparison charts using the compare tool.
3) Load a 1-year chart of the Dow Jones Industrial Average.
4) At your table, brainstorm & discover companies that have diverged from what the market is doing.
5) Use google news and filtering for the days that a market sharply diverged, find news stories the explain why the stock gained or lost value.
5) Cold call share out of findings.
