Circle: Knight or Samurai?

Activity: Today we will be having the Guidance in class period 5 and 7 to go over course sign ups, college and career planning.

Finishing Paper: If you have not finished your Knight and Samurai paper you will have time to complete it in class today.  The rest of you will be watching the movie "The Last Samurai" 

Your paper must include the following: 

1. Three contextualization paragraphs from your notes on Serfs, Samurai and Knight.  Your introduction should be the Serf paragraph explaining  how bad it was to be poor in medieval times and why if given the choice to be a Knight or Samurai which one you would choose.

2. Three color coded paragraphs that have evidence from documents B, C, D, E or F.  These paragraph will have evidence in "quotations" taken directly from the document that how the Knights and Samurai are similar or different and which one, given the you would choose to be.

3. A brief conclusion that explains in your own words why you would choose either a Knight or a Samurai.

2) Unit overview & watch something about knights and samurai. 
3) Explanation of the paper.
4) Contextualization(Opening paragraph)-What was life like during medieval times, particularly for Europeans?

5) Create document and attach it to today's assignment.
7) In your breakout group, pick ONE document and work together to identify the differences/similarities
8) Share out.
9) Write.

Knights and Samurai
Target: I can use original source documents in order to defend a position.
1) Overview of the assignment: who would you rather be based on the philosophy of each.
2) Read background essay.
3) Document A: Read and determine a philosophical statement for each based on the information.
4) Repeat for each document.
5) Body paragraph structure: a) claim states preferred philosophy; b) philosophical statement of knight; c) evidence of that philosophy; d) warrant says; e) warrant means; f) philosophical statement of samurai; g) warrant says; h) warrant means; i) warrant matters explaining why the philosophical statement you selected resonates with you and makes your life better.
