Vocab: Reminder about quiz on Friday. 

Reading: Read on your own. 

Circle: If you were living in a matrix, what feature would you want added to your world to make it appear like a paradise? What feature would you prefer be added to add “suffering and misery”?

Write: You have 40 minutes to write an essay.  Here are the prompts:

What was Socrates trying to tell us?

Who are the prisoners? 

What keeps us as prisoners?

Who does Socrates believe is keeping us there?

How does he propose getting out?

What does he believe we will see when we leave the cave?

Why does he believe that even if you could go back into the cave, no one would believe you?

And finally, do you agree with him and is idea?

You will be writing your essay next class.  Successful essays will:
1) Explain positive things about the blue pill world.
2) Explain positive things about the red pill world.
3) Will have a logical organizational pattern with diverse claims.
4) Use of the following sources: The Matrix;"The Allegory of the Cave,"
5) Write a clear thesis/purpose statement.
8) Use claims, specific quoted evidence, and warrants to advance your purpose.
9) Use other people to proof read your essay.
Today, we will prepare for that essay

This brings us to the Enlightenment...,

Brainstorm: You show up to school, and there are no adults present, but all the students are.  What happens?  Write out as many details and scenarios as you can.

(If Time) Draw out what the entrance to a high school would look like for EACH of the philosophies

Wrap Up: Which philosophy do you trust more?  Which is more practical?  Why
