China-USA activity
Each table will be assigned a particular statistic or set of statistics.  Your job will be to investigate further. You will be creating a short presentation that will look at one particular set of statistics.  You will be using the iPad to do further research about your topic.  Simple Wiki is a great resource for this but you are not limited to this only.
Procedure:
We will give groups a set amount of time to complete a discussion on each questions below.  After the discussion, you will have a set amount of time to summarize to discussion -- your summary will be written in your notes. After the summary, we'll move to the next question.
Questions:
-What is the definition of ______?
-What did you notice about the difference between the two countries?
-Why do you think this is important?  For example, should we be concerned here in the USA or     China?
-What are some of the implications? For example, is this good or bad for the USA?
-How is this going to help or hurt the countries in the future?
-Is this going to hurt or help the USA-China relationship?

Stuff to consider:
After students have completed their handouts, ask them what they can conclude. Discuss the similarities and differences they found between these two economies. What can they deduct about how and why the daily lives of American and Chinese people differ? How can they account for the fact that so many Chinese remain poor while the Chinese economy is so large and is growing so rapidly? What share of the world's wealth does each country have, for example?
