We'll be watching a portion of a BBC documentary on the history of Syria. We'll be taking notes during the video for a purpose. To determine the purpose, we will watch the introduction and conclusion to determine what our purpose is.

Group Activity -- Supporting Themes
1) In groups, brainstorm possible broad themes. Share, placing top 4 on the board. As a class, determine top themes, place them on poster paper.
2) In groups you will be assigned pages in which you will be mining quotes that fit under the selected themes. Place the quotes on cards with page numbers, then tape card onto corresponding poster.
