Adminastrivia: 
--Collect Honors homework;
--collect egg drop homework.

Honors Assignment: Find and clip out of a newspaper 5 stories and write a brief paragraph explaining which level of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs the article best illustrates and why.

Target 1:  Learning how to build a community in the classroom.
By the End of the Period: You will practice and learn how to actively listening in your group.

Target 2: Learn why people behave the way they do.
By the End of the Period: You will be able to explain what we can do in this classroom to help you meet your needs and move up Maslow's Hierarchy.

Activity: Hand back letters and read them.  Write down on the outside of the letter what you think you wrote to yourself.  You will be given Humex money based on how accurately you remembered what you wrote to yourself.

Announcement: Seating chart change.  This will be happening next Thursday September 11th.

Circle Intro:  What is a circle?  Why do we do it?
Circle Question: Favorite cartoon from childhood?

Activity: In your group, create a "freeze frame" where you exhibit exactly what a group looks like when they are actively listening to one group member speak.

Activity: Read "The Lowdown on Longhand: How Writing by Hand Benefits the Brain."
--Underline interesting/important facts.
--Among your group pick the notes that your table thinks look the most organized and complete.  Your not reading everyones notes, your just trying to determine which notes you would use if you had to study from one set of notes.
--Put the one you chose at the end of your table.  You will now do a gallery walk around the class to figure out which notes from the entire class you would use.
--Stand if front of the notes that you think are the best.
--Turn and talk to the people your standing with about why you would chose the notes you did.
--Now form a circle.  Share out why you picked the one you did.
--What was good about the notes, what could be improved?
--Back at your table you will be presenting to your table about what you think is the most interesting, or main point.
--Humex cash for tables who looked the most engaged during the report out.
--Summarize what the most important thing is in the article and be ready to report out.
--Share important/interesting information with one person at a time speaking and everyone else in the group actively listening -- Humex cash for actively listening.

Activity: Read "Addressing Our Needs: Maslow Comes to Life for Educators and Students."
--Hand out article
--Ask students about how the text is structured.  Why was it set up this way?
--Underline interesting/important facts. Take notes as you go.
--When timer is up, share with one person at a time speaking and everyone else in the group actively listening -- Humex cash for actively listening.
--Brainstorm for 5 minutes what we could do in this classroom based on the information in the classroom.
--From the list, pick 2 ideas and create a presentation to explain what they are.
--Break into two groups and present to teachers.

Activity: Tower-Bridge: In your group, with the given materials, create the tallest structure you can that will also work as a bridge between two tables.
--Materials will be distributed when one group member presents to Mr. Burns a signed group contract promising that all group members have presented their ideas and have been listened to.
--Build the tower bridge.

Debrief: (Circle?) Why did we do what we did?  Name one person you know better as a result of this day.  What did you learn about them?
