Matrix Test

Philosophy Quote -- Finish
Go over philosophy quotes and their meanings.

Specific Practice
The writing you'll be doing today requires that you know what specific examples are.  Let's Practice!

Finish Philosophy Unit
Write a messy essay in which you use your notes to explain what you have learned and how you can apply it to your life.  Possible focussing questions:
1) What philosophical quotes do you think are most helpful for you?
2) Which song's philosophy did you find most useful?
3) Has the Matrix/Allegory of the cave made you think any differently about things?
4) Could you list some philosophical statements that you think everyone should live by?
5) What philosophy from your book most connects to you?

Here's what we are looking for:
1) Every paragraph begins with a claim -- be clear what the point of the paragraph is
2) Every paragraph has specific examples. Passages from your book, lyrics from the song, people you know, things that can be videotaped are specifics
3) An essay that is written TO US.
Learning Target: You'll be able to use specific examples to make your points!

Economy Unit -- NEW!!!!!!!!
Take this survey
Economy: The system used to get people what they want and need.
1) What is economy? To begin, in your group, each person name an item that you have in your house -- the group pick the most interesting one.  Then, using your best guesses, explain exactly how that item got made and ended up in the house. This activity should help you understand the definition of economy.
2) Examine what you already think you know: look at this sheet and answer the question.
3) Reading time with purpose: The book does not end well.  As you read, you'll see that things probably won't end well, and you'll naturally judge the characters -- judge harshly, but come back with evidence from the text to back up your opinions.
