Finish Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs and Symbolism
We will be watching to movie Castaway in class to determine how the main character moves up and down through Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. We will also be looking at symbols: time, wings and crossroads. You will be creating a new note packet to keep your notes in. We will also be creating and decorating folders to keep you notes in.
Activity: Write a superFast® essay with the thesis "In the movie Cast Away Chuck Noland finds himself at all levels of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs."
Activity: Write a superFast® two paragraphs in which you explain how the movie uses symbols to extend and enrich meaning. Have each paragraph describe one symbol.

Fall of Rome Learning Target: At the end of the unit you will be able to explain why the Roman Empire fell and whether similar things may be happening in the United States right now.
Do we learn from our mistakes or does history keep repeating itself?
Why Did Rome Fall? At you table you will be getting one paragraph about one of the many reasons Rome fell. Your table's job is to figure out what the reason is and write it in your own words. You will then be writing a claim, evidence warrant paragraph about your reason that led to the fall of Rome. These will be compiled for the next step in this activity.
