Activity: Montana, 1948 -- the Tweets & Reading
Learning Target: At the end of this activity, you will understand be able to take the perspective of a character in the book.
1) Read
2) Tweet
Period 5-6 Tweets
Period 7-8 Tweets
3) Write -- Example of what we want:
One of the themes from 1948 is that it’s hard to bring justice to some situations. The author explains this by saying that Uncle Frank has been molesting Indian girls, but Frank’s brother Wesley doesn’t want to believe it because Frank is his brother. “When he examines an Indian he … he does things he shouldn’t. He takes liberties. Indecent liberties” (36). This shows how it’s hard to bring justice to some situations because when you hear something bad about what a family member has done, you don’t get mad at them, you get worried that they’ll get caught. What Frank did was bad, and there does need to be justice. But because Frank is a well respected white doctor it’s hard to believe he committed such a crime. Especially in 1948, because they would take Frank’s words over the Native American’s.
Two options for beginning your paragraph are: 1. One of the themes from Montana 1948 is that prejudice... Or 2. One of the themes from Montana 1948 is that family...
You do not have to use these if you have another theme clearly in mind.
