Periods 7-8 Activity: Career Assessment: Career One Stop

Activity: Budget 

Pre-Budget: List as many as you can: what are the things you think you would have to buy/pay for on a regular basis? Share with your group. 

Create a shared list of essentials on the board. 

Pick a few common essentials—groceries, car payment, heating, internet, phone, healthcare, etc—and have one table research one to find out how much that is likely to cost each month  Share the results with the group  

During: You are going to craft a budget for yourself using a spreadsheet.  You will have a limited amount of money—a salary—that you have to keep to. For items like housing, you will have to provide an actual listing for an available rental; for your food bill…..

Debrief: What are your takeaways? What changes might you have to make to your habits? What is more expensive than you realized? What careers are you re-thinking as a result?  You will be presenting your findings to you group and some of you will be presenting classwide.
