Restrepo
Restrepo and Metaphor
Activity: After circling up turn and talk with a neighbor about what metaphor means. Show the clip from Joshua McDonough. What is he talking about? After reporting out count off by six. You will be rotating around the room and writing down in the packet what each of the 6 characters from Restrepo will carry home with them.
Before: Write 5 lines about one character from the film and something about their war experience that stands out to you.

Before: Read an excerpt from Catch-22. Answer the questions so we can discuss.
During: Last week we began talking about the reasons some people go to war. Let's review those lists with some sharing out; then connect to Catch-22.

You decide to write a letter to the president to help him understand what it’s like to be a “grunt” deciding whether to go to war or not. You can have either perspective–go to war or don’t go to war–but you need the president to understand what he/she need to know before going.
