Introduction: Prediction, article, response, prediction about stock market.

1) Go to classroom and open Presidential Platforms Activity.
2) You will be looking at Biden and Trumps Presidential platform.You will completing the grid for each candidate.
3) You will be putting your own stance or position in the last box. This is what YOU believe.
4) Finally, you will be writing which candidate you agree with more and why.
5) This will be following the Claim, Evidence, Warrant format.
6) This paper will be 5 paragraphs long or 6 if you are in honors.
7) You should have an introduction, 3 or 4 body paragraphs and a conclusion.
8) You will be doing the actual writing on Tuesday or Thursday depending on what day you are remote.

Learning Target: I can read a story and figure out the author's hidden meaning and symbolism.
In order to write about literature, you must learn the think about literature. We'll be reading a short story in order to learn the habit of answering three questions: What does it say? What does it mean? What does it matter? All of these questions can be summed up by trying to figure out why the author does what they do.
The Steps:
1) I read

3) You talk: as a group determine a "why did the author..." question.
4) We cold call
5) We select one of the questions.
6) You discuss.
7) Cold call.
8) Repeat
Symbolism Presentations
Learning Target: I can explain how symbols are used in literature
On your remote day, you watched a video about symbolism. Work with your partner to create a short presentation explaining what symbolism is and how it is used.
Reading Literature
Learning Target: I can determine the meaning of a story by examining the author's use of characterization.
We will learn a little more about Ernest Hemingway to help determine what his themes might be.
1) We will watch a short documentary about Hemingway and examine his philosophies and beliefs and how they might show up in his writing.
2) We will google some fun facts about Hemingway to learn more about him.
3) Ultimately, we are trying to determine a theme of the story through his use of characterization by looking at the stories we have read so far.
Stock Market Game:
Learning Target: I can explain how the stock market works and what stocks are.
We will be giving each group a company to research and either recommend to buy or not to buy.
1) We give you a company: Caterpillar, Netflix, Coca Cola.
