Unit: Getting & Using Information 
Learning Target:  I can find reliable information and explain my findings to others.
Research Question: Based on research, should I increase or decrease my screen time?
1) Determine the facilitator at your table. Facilitators stand.
2) Each person introduces self and one toy they liked as a kid.
3) How do you know if information on the web is reliable? Turn & talk then report out.
4) At your table, each person find an article from a reliable source about how screen time affects the brain and behavior. Facilitator: Make sure each person has a different article.
5) Research time: Read and take notes on important findings. (5 minutes)
6) Share your findings at your table, taking turns to share one fact/finding.
7) Prepare to present out.
8) Random presentations

Reading for Meaning
Learning Target: I can explain how the theme is developed in a text.
We will be reading the "End of Something."
The Steps:
   -I identify previous themes (cold call with prep).
   -I will read a page aloud.
   -You will mark the text where you note things that may have meaning (1 minute)
   -Facilitator: Have your group take turns presenting what they noticed.
   -Talk freely, preparing for cold call (1 minute)
   -Cold call.
   -Repeat until done.
In Classroom, create a new paragraph on how the author develops the theme in "The End of Something."
Honors: On the same document, add three (two for CCR) previously written paragraphs to create a unified essay.


Unit: Independent Reading
Learning Target: I can identify when an author uses characterization and infer it's meaning. 
Read your independent reading book. Mr. Burns will be conferencing with you on your reading.

Stock Market Game: 
Learning Target:  I can explain how the stock market works and what stocks are.
We will be giving each group a company to research and either recommend to buy or not to buy.
