 Circle (after career activity): How was a favorite character of yours characterized?

Unit: Understanding how Theme's a developed in Literature/Film
Learning Target: I can explain how an author uses symbol, setting and (especially) characterization to develop a theme.
In week, you will be watching "Cast Away" and writing an essay explaining how the them of the film was developed by using symbols, setting and characterization. Today, we will watch "La Luna" and practice in groups using "turn and talk" and "cold call."
1) Here's the theme: "In order to be happy, you need to become your own person."
2) Scenario: you are the screenwriter and need to come up with the characterizations that the film with use to develop the theme. Here's the basics of the plot: a young boy goes to work with his father and grandfather doing the family job of sweeping stars on the moon to create the shining moon that we see. The boy start as a copy cat, but as the three encounter a new problem, the boy become his own person.

3) How would characterize the boy at the beginning?
4) How would characterize the boy at the middle?
5) How would characterize the boy at the end?
6) Watch the film to see how they did it.
7) Go to classroom and dash off an essay answering the question "How did the film use characterization to develop the theme?"
8) Body paragraphs will use the claim structure "the fist thing the film did to develop the theme is to..."

Learning Target: I can make explain the connections between historical events and the present.

3. Weird facts about Rome-At your table make a brief list of the strangest things you found to report out
4. Is there a connection between what America is going through and what Rome experienced? 
You will be taking notes figuring out what the 8 reasons.
