Vocabulary Practice
This year, we will be learning the 100 words that every high school graduate should know.
1) Click here to access the list.
2) We will select three words each week to study and learn.
3) You will be assessed every Friday.
5/6 Words: colloquial, anachronism, myriad
7/8 Words: Hubris, satire, enigma

Unit: Understanding how Theme's a developed in Literature/Film
Learning Target: I can explain how an author uses symbol, setting and (especially) characterization to develop a theme.
Final preparations to write
1) Here is characterization chart for "The Present." Now do the same thing for Cast Away in the assigned groups of two and three.
2) Make sure to write the short and full theme on the bottom.
3) Gallery walk to see different versions and to record possible themes.
5) Think, pair, share, report out
6) Any questions?
7) Write the essay: 3 body paragraphs for CCR, 4 for honors.
8) Format and color code your essay.
NOTE: To help you with your warrant understand this:
     Your "means" statement MUST explain how your evidence shows that Chuck is displaying what you say in your claim.
     Your "matters" has to explain how this segment of the film develops the theme.  Why is it needed? What does it let the audience understand?

Reading Practice
You will read after completing your essay.

Unit: Fall of Rome
Learning Target: I can make explain the connections between historical events and the present.
Look at the DBQ documents in isolation.  Determine the source, bias, reliability and meaning of each document.
Today:
1)  Understand why its so important to be able to determine whether sources are credible or not.  Ted Talk
2)  Understand how dangerous Fake News can be.
2) We will do an example of a document analysis on the board.
3) At your table, you will get newsprint.  On it, you will record, for each document:
     -Who produced it?
     -Who was the intended audience?
     -When was it produced?
     -Where was it produced?
     -Why was it produced?
     -What is your interpretation of it's meaning?
     -How does it relate to the fall of Rome?
