Circle: Scenario: You are in a town meeting at Cape Elizabeth about bringing in affordable housing.  Make a statement either for or against the proposal.

Rumford Cape: The Effects of Moving to a Better Neighborhood
Learning TargetI can use information to explain how my choices determine who I will become.
We will be reading "Here Comes the Neighborhood," an article about what happens to neighborhoods when poor people move in and what happens to the poor people who move into nice neighborhoods.
1) Create a page of notes titled "Here Comes the Neighborhood"
2) I will read the opening paragraphs.
3) Take notes
4) Turn and talk
5) Repeat.


Unit: Rumford or Cape -- Writing the essay
Today, we will be assembling/writing the essay for the unit.
1) Introductions/conclusions: Review what you have.
2) Claim workshop: we will put on the board the four categories of claims (pro Cape, pro Rumford, anti Cape, anti Rumford) and brainstorm possible claims.
3) The importance of the counter claim.
4) The order of the essay.
5) Warrant reminder lesson: Says: explain the evidence; means: explain how the evidence relates and supports your claim; matters: explain how your evidence, along with the claim, supports your thesis.
6) Write.
