Group Activity:
Work as a group to determine 5 things the members of the group have in common.
Target: At the end of class you are going to know something about someone in your group that you do not know know (Building Community)
Circle:
Something you learned about someone in your group.
Nighty Night, Ernie:
Your group will be writing a group essay on Ernie's Ark. Will take some steps to get you ready.
1) At your group, use your notes from the topic activity to determine what you think Ernie's Ark is most about. Share; we'll list them on the board.
2) Now, from the list on the board, determine what you think the book says about that topic (we'll model examples).
3) Now that we've determined the themes of the book, each person will look through the book to find text from the book to support the statements.
4) Create a group essay: One member create a Google doc, share it with the group members and Mr. Burns and Toohey. After deciding which thesis your essay will support, each person in the group creates a TWO paragraphs to support that thesis; ONE person in the group creates only ONE paragraph and an introduction. Submit!
Target: Determine a theme or central idea of a text and analyze in detail its development over the course of the text, including how it emerges and is shaped and refined by specific details.
