Introduction: We are going to be examining patterns in history.  One of the enduring patterns is the fall of empires.  We will be looking at the fall of Rome and asking the question: Is what happened to the Roman Empire happening to the USA?  You will be comparing and contrasting what happened in Rome and what is happening in the USA.  You will be determining if in fact America is heading down the same road as the Roman Empire.

Independent Research: 
1) Watch the video that shows the greatness of the Roman Empire.
2) Independently brainstorm reasons that the Empire fell/or why anything "great" falls.
3) Share at your table.
4) Share out your best guesses.
5) Research independently on your own for 30 minutes finding various explanations for why the Roman Empire fell apart.
