Circle: What word did you just learn?
Activity: Finishing Castaway. When you are finished, you will be writing an essay explaining how Castaway explains Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs.
1) Research: what themes and symbols do you expect to see when watching the movie.
2) Watch and take notes.
3) Chart the main character on Maslow's hierarchy of needs.
Cast Away Essay
Learning Target Demonstration -- This essay is meant for you to demonstrate two things:
1) Show how the movie Cast Away explains Maslow's Hierarchy of needs.
2) Use claims to drive each paragraph and support the given thesis:
"The movie Cast Away explains Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs through having a character's behavior motivated by different needs at different point in the movie."
Claims(first sentence of every body paragraph) should use the template, "One example of how Chuck Noland was being motivated to meet his needs is during the scene [describe scene] Chuck Noland was trying to meet his [insert level] needs."
Sequence
1) Finish Movie
2) At your table, work to find the best scenes for describing each level of Maslow's.
3) Write essay, carefully making sure to display that you've met the learning targets.
Crazy Rome Activity: We've all seen what it takes to keep up with the Kardashians and the crazy stuff you see on TMZ and YouTube but were people just as crazy or crazier in the Roman Empire. Your task it to find some bizarre facts about Rome, its people and leaders and create a textual evidence paragraph that you will share with the class and talk about a comparable behavior today.
