Task: you will be writing an essay explaining how Time O'Brien uses characterization to develop a theme.

1) Reminder: what was the theme of "The Present" and how was it developed?
50 Minutes individual time
1) Last week, you read "The Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong." Here is an audiobook recording Part 1. AND Part 2 if needed. Here is a pdf.
2) What's the theme?
3) How was that theme developed?
4) On paper, work with your group to come up with one quotes that shows how she was at the beginning, two quotes for the middle and one from the end.
5) Share quotes with class, all record.
6) Open computer, go to assignment in Classroom, in separate paragraphs, your favorite characterization at each stage of the theme development.
7) Write the theme at the top.
8) Complete the essay, writing your claims and warrants around the quotes.
9) If time, Use ChatGPT to explore how to write a funny or interesting introduction.

Don't forget to practice your geography! You will need to know countries and capitals.
