Silent Reading in The Things They Carried
As you read, for each page, either summarize or make an observation. Additionally, collect a quote every few pages or so that fits on the theme sheets.
Day Overview
We'll be toppling Rome today, writing an essay in which you will explain whether the United States is falling for the same reasons Rome did.
Learning Target:
By the end of this class, You will be able to answer the question, "Are we experiencing anything like what happened during the fall of the Roman Empire?"
Empires Falling Essay
You will be writing an essay that proves that the USA may be falling for similar reasons that Rome Fell.
1) Use these documents: Period 5&6; Period 7&8
2) Each paragraph will explain a reason Rome failed with an explanation; a general comparison to what is happening now; a specific example from the news and a warrant that explains how this example connects to the original reason from Rome.
3) Complete as many paragraphs as time allows.
Example Paragraph
One reason why Rome fell is because of the split between the Eastern and Western empires and how they never agree on anything to help Rome in any way. It’s kinda like how America works today the gap between the democrats and republicans today, how they can’t agree on one thing there has to be a vote for the country to agree on one thing. As the Boston Globe says when talking about the problem, “Now to Washington, where the chance for a productive, divided government seems remote” clearly like the Boston Globe think that the divided government won’t work then we could be in trouble.
