Quick Test:  Using a scene from The Rivals, explain how in environment/culture can encourage or inhibit aspirations. Use the Claim, Evidence, Warrant format.

Charades: Build community by playing charades with your new group.

Self-Assess: Last week, we talked about how you are always competing with others.  This assessment will explain in what categories you are being compared to others.

Circle: In what category are you strongest? Weakest?

Question: Does it matter where you live if you want to get everything you want and need? How difficult is it to change your environment?

Documentary:  Roger and Me
Scenerio: What happens to those in Rumford if the mill closes?  We'll answer that question by watching Roger and Me. While we watch, take notes gathering information. During this film, we will not be stopping and expect you to take notes as we go.
Sequence: 
1) Brainstorm -- what are we looking for?
2) Write on the board key ideas we are looking for.
3) Watch and take notes.

b) How does environment/culture encourage or inhibit aspirations?
c) Explain what capitalism and socialism are and give examples of both in the Oxford Hills.
d) Explain the possible roles of government in improving and supporting a capitalist economy.
e) Explain what"Surplus value of labor" is and the role it play in capitalism.
f)  Explain are the benefits of capitalism?
g) What are the weaknesses of capitalism?
